About us
Liz and Jeff Steen
Jeff Steen and Liz Steen started Divorce Without Court together, to give people back control: the decisions about your family, your home and your future should be yours, not a stranger's in a courtroom.
Mediator
Liz Steen
Liz is a Gottman-trained mediator in West Seattle. She offers fact-based, research-based mediation for families, couples and neighbors, and $65 quick-question calls for people who have already started their divorce forms.
Liz brings 20 years of experience working with domestic violence clinics. She is trained in the Gottman Method, the research-based approach to conflict developed by The Gottman Institute, and in trauma-informed methods. In practice, that means you set the pace, you're never pressured to agree, and every decision stays in your hands.
As a mediator, Liz is neutral. She doesn't represent either side; she helps both people reach an agreement they can actually follow.
In 2025, Liz started the King County Law Library's Remote Family Law Forms Lab to help people with their family law forms without traveling to the courthouse. She volunteers there each week. She also volunteers with Court Helpers, which pairs people going through civil court with a Court Buddy and monitors how the court system is working.

Private and confidential. Mediation is a private process, with no public courtroom and no public record. All mediation materials and communications are confidential. What's said in mediation can't be used in court.
No legal advice. We can't give legal advice. Liz is a mediator, and she doesn't act as anyone's lawyer.
