Liz Steen, J.D. and C.M., began her career as an intern in the United States Senate after graduating from Indiana University Bloomington – Maurer School of Law in 2007. She became a mediator in 2017 and has about 20 years volunteer experience in domestic violence clinics.

Liz’s parents and in-laws were all divorced (some several times), and she and her husband Jeff were both divorced before they met, married, and had a daughter together. Elizabeth believes divorce is hard, and heartbreaking, but it can also be a fresh start. Divorce leads to new relationships where your needs can be met, and new family combinations where you can all be treated with respect and fairness.

As a former food writer, Elizabeth understands that combining the required ingredients in the “right” way may not always give you the result that you really want. A recipe is a set of directions from an expert. But you will experience the dish in your own personal way. Divorce is similar. An expert can tell you what you “should” do. Most people still need to personalize the experience, however.

After work, Elizabeth enjoys running with her rescue dog, Winnie, cooking recipes from Melissa Clark, Mark Bittman, and Ina Garten, hot yoga, and chasing her family’s fantasy football league title.
